I had the opportunity to visiti Guilin, China in college and I have been enamored by it ever since. Its beautiful rivers with vistas of high rock formations shrouded in fog-like clouds made very moment seem magical. I attempted to honor that memory with this two part thrown vase with a landscape carving that surrounds the vase and incorporates rocks, water, clouds and a foggy backdrop. 
 
I didn't hold back any effort with my first large vase, as I finished it off with hand glazing each layer and section with carefully considered brush work and depth.
